The difference between Remy and Raw hair is in the cuticle. To be short, raw hair has the cuticle intact while remy hair has the cuticle chemically removed.

The cuticle layer is one of the three major portions of the hair strand, and its the outermost layer that functions to protect the innermost layers of the hair shaft. The cuticle layer determines how well your hair styles and how it feels, and is also responsible for allowing moisture to pass into the hair shaft and stay there.

Remy, processed hair

Processed hair is typically obtained from multiple donors. To give it a uniform look, it is chemically treated during production by soaking in an acid based solution to remove the hair‘s cuticles. Silicones and dyes are then added to mirror various textures, minimize tangling, and to restore the hairs shine and manageability. It can last up to one year with proper care.

Raw, unprocessed hair 

Raw, unprocessed hair is obtained from a single donor and has the cuticles fully intact. It’s not treated with any chemicals or solutions to alter its natural texture and pattern. Color application is easiest because the hair’s true tone are visible. The hair lasts longer than processed hair and maintains its natural texture, even after repeated heat styling and dying. It can last over two years with proper care.
